Mode Magazine

Layout. Copywrite. Art Direction.

Creatives are constantly interrupted with things that need to get done: work obligations, the news dominating our thoughts, and advertising everywhere one goes — with little life to inspire, slow one down, and be present. How can we help foster these moments and inspire a drained creative?

Welcome, Mode.

A camera mode; an ode to. Welcome Mode. A monthly, B&W ad-free submission-based publication joining poetic verse and photographic imagery to emotionally immerse and inspire you, the reader. Viewer. Observer. Artist. Appreciator of.

Editor’s Letter

Why do we write or take photos? Perhaps it’s to leave our mark. To trace our steps in our life’s timeline. To freeze time and go back to that moment in an instant. To heal. Transport. Transform. To witness, and to be witnessed. Mode believes it is all of these things. Through these spatial images, the intent is to showcase the writer and photographer in a manner that allows for room to absorb, emote, and inspire. Let the negative space in the images draw you in as you enjoy stunning B&W photos from contributing photographers, read articles about famed artists of old and new woven through, and poetry featuring one artist per publication. In this intimate issue, we muse about love found and lost. A human experience, strikethrough the heart.

Classic B&W with shades of gray was the chosen color palette for this publication to avoid distracting elements or anticipation of what’s to come on the following page, but rather — allows the reader to flow from beginning to end with ease.

Chapparal. A beautiful hybrid slab/serif typeface is seen throughout for its readability and versatile nature. Text is often seen mirroring the photographic shapes or wrapped around imagery for fluidity and continuity.

Photography, mostly elements in nature, with spatial elements to draw you in and escape into your mind’s eye; allowing new thoughts to form, the camera to click, the pen to script.
